A short documentary film about the creation of the Vanitas project by Matthew Rolston, filmed in Los Angeles, California, and Palermo, Italy.

This film follows artist Matthew Rolston on a personal journey of discovery about the subjects of death and death-denial, one that raises questions about the existence of objective truth in photography. Expressed as monumentally-scaled fine art portraits, Rolston's "Vanitas" series examines the mummified remains of some of the prominent citizens, both religious and aristocratic, buried in the Capuchin Catacombs of Palermo - a subject much visited by artists, writers and poets throughout its more-than 500-year history. Written by Alessandra Pasquino, Matthew Rolston, and Sean Nalaboff. Produced by R-ROLL. Directed by Alessandra Pasquino.
